Illinois shaped corn flake makes $1350

A trivia-company owner from Austin, Texas, has purchased a corn flake shaped like the state of Illinois for $1,350 from two sisters from Virginia.

Kerr owns TriviaMania.com and said he will likely send someone to Virginia to pick up the flake by hand, so it won’t be damaged

“We’re starting a collection of pop culture and Americana items,” said Monty Kerr of Austin, Texas. “We thought this was a fantastic one.”

The auction had been taken off the online auction site a few days ago because it violated eBay’s rules on selling food items. But the Chesapeake sisters who launched the auction, Emily and Melissa McIntire, ages 15 and 23, found a way around the rules. They relisted the cereal flake as a coupon sale, so people were not bidding on the corn flake itself, but on a coupon that is redeemable for the corn flake.
