eBay launches new Neighborhoods feature for community members

Published October 11th, 2007

A new feature called eBay Neighborhoods has been launched on eBay.com by online auction site eBay Inc (Nasdaq:EBAY), extending the ability of its community members to connect through commerce.

eBay said eBay Neighborhoods provides a collection of micro-communities centred around common interests, encouraging eBay community members to share, interact and trade with each other in a fun, engaging way.

The new feature draws content from existing community features, including eBay listings, eBay Blogs, eBay Reviews and eBay Guides. It also introduces new Neighborhood-specific message boards, member-uploaded photos and social mapping tools, allowing users to visualise the interconnections between them and their common interests.

There are currently over 600 neighbourhoods, incorporating a wide range of interests, with the number of neighbourhoods expected to grow and evolve, based on community feedback. eBay expects the Neighborhoods to make the trading process easier, by combining commerce, community and communication and enhancing traditional online buying and selling.
