Cable networks boycott eBay

Some of the largest cable networks are boycotting auctions on eBay Inc., according to reports Thursday.
The New York Times said Turner Networks, Discovery, Lifetime and ESPN will boycott an online exchange designed by the San Jose-based Internet seller (NASDAQ:EBAY) to sell advertising time.
The Times, quoting New York-based trade group Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau, said that without the cable networks’ participation, there will be no air time for the eBay exchange to sell to advertisers.
EBay was hired last year by a group of marketers that pledged $50 million to build the exchange. The group includes Palo Alto-based Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HPQ).
