Whitman says efforts are being made to combat online

Calls are being made for better online security from leading internet auction site eBay, amid concerns that users could find themselves vulnerable to financial attack and data theft.

Meg Whitman, eBay president and CEO, argues that online sellers need to integrate operations with technology vendors with a view to boosting security and making the trading environment more secure for end users.

Particular worry has been voiced over the risk of sensitive date being stolen via the internet, with a growing level of trading taking place. On this note Ms Whitman urges banks and email service providers to work together against phishing scams, whereby fraudulent parties send emails purporting to be from authentic sources, aiming to gain sensitive financial information.

Though efforts are being made to combat online fraud Ms Whitman states that faster action needs to be taken.
