Cricket Australia says it has cancelled more than a thousand Ashes tickets that have changed hands on the popular online auction site eBay, but will not disclose which seats have been targeted.
The move came after unprecedented demand for Ashes tickets meant the tickets sold out quickly after they went on sale in June and soon after began appearing on auction sites such as eBay often at highly inflated prices.
Australian fans who missed out on the sought-after tickets initially tried to sabotage the ticket auctions on eBay with fake over-priced bids.
However, Cricket Australia has since taken the matter into its own hands, and says it has cancelled 1300 of the auctioned tickets that it has traced through forensic analysis linking original ticket sales to transactions made through known scalpers operating on eBay.
