ONLINE auction users are falling victim to fraud in much bigger numbers than auction companies themselves have suggested, a report from an independent legal research centre claims.
Forty-eight per cent of the auction users surveyed by the Communications Law Centre said they had experienced problems when buying an item. Most often they did not receive the goods they had paid for or, where the item was received, it was not the same as had been described on the site.
These figures are in sharp contrast to the low incidence of problems claimed by auction companies such as eBay.
