Approximately $4,000 in photography equipment stolen from a Troy University lab has been recovered, and a student has been found to be responsible for the theft.

According to Bob Joslin, director of the photography department, a Troy University student has confessed to stealing the equipment from an unlocked lab in Malone Hall on April 12.

Joslin said he was called to the university police office on Tuesday to identify all of the equipment. He said it is all in working condition.

Joslin said the student behind the theft was discovered after the stolen equipment was found up for sale on eBay.

“He put his name on eBay trying to sell the stuff and one of our people here form the department saw it on e-Bay and the police got to him before he had chance to get rid of it,” Joslin said.

The equipment stolen was all university property and included two Nikon lenses and a Fuji S30 digital camera. The Photography lab was left unlocked at the time of the theft in order for students to use the it for their final projects.
