Tom Arnold and Victory Motorcycles Team up for Auction

Pubished July 3rd, 2008

Victory Motorcycles, a division of Polaris Industries Inc. , has gone “Hollywood” teaming up with actor Tom Arnold to create a one-of-a-kind motorcycle geared to raise money for two deserving charities. A Victory Vision Street(TM) featuring a custom paint job designed by legendary special effects guru, the late Stan Winston, will be auctioned off on eBay(R) from July 21-30 and all net proceeds will be donated to Operation Homefront, http://www.operationhomefront.net, which benefits the families of American soldiers, and Camp del Corazon, http://www.campdelcorazon.org, a pediatric heart patient camp that hosts kids who have undergone invasive and life-changing operations.

The unique paint design created by Winston, a close friend of Arnold’s and a riding buddy of many years, was inspired by the recent big-screen feature, “Iron Man” — one of the legend’s last projects before his passing. In addition to the extraordinary paint scheme, the bike also has customized wheels and plates from Ness Customs, a custom 400 watt stereo system designed by Al & Eds Stereo, a custom seat and Pure Victory Gear accessories from Victory Motorcycles.

“The styling of the Victory Vision combined with Stan’s creative design and the generous donations of many others have created an unbelievable riding machine,” said Arnold. “Motorcycles riders and movie lovers will go crazy for this bike and we are thrilled at the opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of the kids at Camp del Corazon and the families who are a part of Operation Homefront with this auction.”

Bidding on this revolutionary bike will begin on eBay on July 21 and last for 10 days. The highest bidder at the conclusion of the auction will ride off with a piece of Hollywood history and, more importantly, the knowledge that he or she has helped touch the lives of those involved with two extraordinary charities.

The bike is currently on display in Pickerington, Ohio (just outside of the Columbus area) at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in the recently opened “MotoStars” exhibit. It is featured in a collection of over 50 famous and celebrity-owned motorcycles. For more information on the exhibit, log on to http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/exhibits/Motostars/Motostars.asp.

Amnesty International highlights human trafficking issue on eBay

Pubished June 26th, 2008

The Swiss branch of Amnesty International took credit Wednesday for a short-lived viral campaign on eBay that used mock auction entries to underscore the issue of human trafficking.

More than 200 entries — based on trademarks that could be someone’s first name — cropped up on eBay on Monday evening. One that began “Mercedes, 1986, excellent condition” showed not a car, but a young woman available for auction.

The US-based online auction service promptly yanked the entries off its website, spokeswoman Sabine Schneider told the Swiss news agency ATS, confirming news that first appeared in the Swiss newspaper Le Matin Bleu.

“eBay has some sympathy for this operation, but it does not wish to be used as some kind of platform,” she said.

“Given that our action was to last three days, we had imagined that eBay would close its eyes,” said Manon Shick, spokeswoman for Amnesty International in Switzerland.

Despite the incident, Schneider said eBay had contacted Amnesty International to propose a collaboration on human rights, in a form that has yet to be worked out.

Vuurve Launches Pick-Up Stores for eBay Shoppers

Pubished June 3rd, 2008

Washington, DC - Consumers who purchase products from eBay and Amazon.com want the value associated with shopping online, however, the wait for shipping is a significant inconvenience.

R. David Johnson, Vuurve, LLC founder, recalls a conversation that he had with friends who are avid eBay shoppers, where they all agreed that there is no better place for value than shopping online, but found that they had to sacrifice the convenience of being able to take their purchases home immediately. The Vuurve founder believed that a significant opportunity existed for any company that could “Bridge the gap between Traditional Retail Convenience and Online Retail Value”. Johnson has since launched Vuurve, LLC., which has successfully forged a relationship with UPS & The UPS Store, to build a national network of 100+ Pick-Up Stores, where eBay & Amazon.com Retailers stock their high-demand products and consumers take them home on the Same-Day of purchase, a vision realized by the innovative Vuurve Shared Distribution model.

Vuurve, LLC has launched its long anticipated solution in major Metropolitan areas throughout the United States, to include Massachusetts, New York, the Washington DC Metro Area and Greater Atlanta. During the next several months Vuurve, LLC will continue to expand its network of “Pick Up Stores” farther west to Illinois, Texas and California markets, providing Online Retailers & Consumers with unprecedented service.

Vuurve Internet Retailers are market leaders who offer consumers “High Demand” products at incredible discounts, compared to traditional retailers. Theses market leaders, Internet Retailers, are well-established and highly reputable (rated) merchants who offer quality products and excellent Customer Service. Vuurve “Pick Up Stores” are the well-known The UPS Stores, 100+ select locations conveniently located throughout the country. Together, they give consumers the ability to purchase & receive “High Demand” products within an hour. Simply Find It. Buy It. Get It. Now.

The formula is an easy one: Find a way for consumers to yield the benefits of online value and traditional retail, and they will reward Internet Retailers with continued patronage. Vuurve has successfully given Online Retailers the ability to effectively compete against Traditional Retailer, beyond discount pricing, and will certainly drive more consumers towards online shopping.
